How does Hyaluronic Acid work?

Hyaluronic Acid is a moisturizer, but it is important to understand its moisturizing function. The concept of a moisturizer can be broken down into two components, moisturizers that draw moisture in (humectants), and moisturizers that lock or trap moisture in (emollients).

.Hyaluronic Acid is ONLY a humectant! Which means if you apply Hyaluronic Acid onto dry skin, the acid will pull the moisture from your skin, like a water vampire!
So, if you use Hyaluronic Acid (or products that contain Hyaluronic Acid), it is best to hydrate your skin with an additional water source (e.g., toners, or just plain water) to prevent Hyaluronic Acid from drawing moisture out of your skin.

How do I keep the moisture locked in?

Remember, I told you that there are two components to a moisturizer? Let’s turn our focus to emollients. To prevent the water source from evaporating after you’ve applied a Hyaluronic Acid product to your face, trap, or lock in the moisture with an emollient, or an emollient-based moisturizer, like my Hydration Boost Me.
